KKKHK History

The Gang first got together at the New Zealand Ambassadors Residence (NZAR)Santiago, Chile for a farewell to a long serving member of the New Zealand Embassy staff. This culminated in the singing of "Pokarekare Ana". Admittedly, a nice song, but at that time the only one we knew. From that point, we vowed to become more culturally developed and from those simple beginnings came the KKKHK. The group originally formed Waitangi Day (Feb 6, 2003) with the aim to promote and support in events as may be needed by the New Zealand Embassy predominantly fulfilling cultural roles that would normally be available in New Zealand. It is also available for cultural exchange programmes and other activities that would promote cultural interests in the region.

I hail from Opoutama, Mahia Peninsula. Despite such humble beginnings, I have spent a large amount of my life in Auckland. Joined the NZ Army at an early age and after 3 years found myself in the Royal New Zealand Navy. After a successful career spanning 23 years of military involvment during which time I met my wife. I then moved to London and from there became involved in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Have spent a 3 year tour in Sultanate of Oman and now am currently in Chile. Expect to be here until February 2007.I hail from the Rongomai Wahine (Ngatikahungunu)tribe, with Rakaipaaka as my subtribe.Maori was my first language and I have been involved in Maori cultural activities since leaving school and joining the Armed Forces.

It is now July 2007 and am heading for Tehran, Iran. I am optimistic the the KKKHK will continue to foster a cultural showcase that is particularly unique to the place we call home.
